Where A New Internal Link Would Actually Help

Content says what your site has written. Links says how its pages lead to each other, which ones nothing points at, and which specific link would fix that.

Free plan: one website of up to 900 pages, and three re-analyses. No card, no trial clock.

The Links screen: 25,475 internal links across 294 pages, the pages nothing links to, how far each page sits from the home page, and the audit's link findings listed beside them.
Links: the shape of the link graph, and what is wrong with it.

The Situation

Internal Linking Advice Is Almost Always Generic

Everybody knows internal links matter. Almost no tool will tell you which link to add, from which page, with what text, and why. So internal linking becomes a vague quarterly intention rather than a task somebody can finish.

The other half of the problem is invisible: pages nothing links to, pages buried six clicks deep, and anchor text that says click here two hundred times.

  • Pages nothing on the site links to, discoverable only from the sitemap
  • Important pages sitting five or six clicks from the homepage
  • Anchor text that describes nothing, repeated across hundreds of links
  • Links pointing at redirects and errors that nobody has audited since launch
How It Works

Structure, Faults, And A Specific Suggestion

Structure covers depth, reachability, and how inbound and outbound links are distributed across the site. Faults surfaces the audit's link-related findings with their counts, each opening the audit's own page, so nothing is diagnosed twice in two places with two different answers.

The part worth the section is the pairing: a page that needs links, matched with a well-linked page on the same subject that does not link to it yet, with proposed link text taken from a search the target is already found by or from the target's own heading. It is deterministic, and it says plainly that it judges subject from what pages call themselves rather than from their full text.

Link text lists which texts the site repeats, which say nothing at all, and which pages no link describes. Links with no readable text are left out rather than reported as unlabelled, which is a different problem.

Structure

  • Crawl depth and reachability per page
  • How inbound and outbound links are distributed
  • Orphans, unreachable pages and pages buried too deep
  • Page authority derived from the link graph

Faults

  • The audit's link-related findings with their counts, each opening the audit's own page
  • Broken internal links, redirect chains and redirect loops
  • Internal nofollow, malformed links and tracking parameters on internal links
  • Breadcrumb markup

Opportunities and text

  • A page that needs links, paired with a well-linked page on the same subject that does not link to it yet
  • Proposed link text: a search the target already ranks for, or the target's own heading
  • The reasons on every row, so a suggestion can be rejected on its merits
  • Which anchor texts the site repeats, which say nothing, and which pages no link describes
  • Outbound: which other websites, from how many pages, and whether those links still work
Straight Answers

What You Get, And What It Will Not Do

What you get

  • Internal linking becomes a finite task with named rows, not a standing intention
  • Orphans and buried pages found before they cost a quarter of traffic
  • Anchor text that describes the destination, at scale
  • Broken and redirected internal links cleaned up from one list

What it will not do

  • It judges subject from what pages call themselves rather than from their full text, and says so on the screen rather than implying semantic analysis it does not do.
  • Orphan detection refuses to run on a crawl that stopped at its budget, because a page looks orphaned when the page linking to it was never read.
  • Nothing is written to your website. Every proposed link is a candidate for a person to judge.
Questions

About Links

Does it add the links for me?

No, and it never will. Nothing is written to your website. Every suggestion, from a meta description to an internal link, is a candidate for a person to judge.

How does it pick the link text?

From a search the target page is already found by, taken from your Search Console data, or from the target's own heading when that is not available. Which one it used is shown on the row.

Why is a page listed as orphaned when I know it is linked?

It should not be. Orphan checks refuse to run at all on a crawl that hit its page budget, precisely because a page looks orphaned when the page linking to it is one the crawl never read. If you are seeing this on a complete crawl, the link is likely nofollow, added by JavaScript the crawl did not render, or on a page that is itself unreachable.
